Late on the night of December 9, the donation box of Shitala Kali Temple, located in Raghunathpur, Baguihati, was stolen after the thieves broke the lock. The theft was discovered early the next morning when a devotee, upon visiting the temple, noticed the broken lock parts lying beside the temple and observed that the donation box was missing. The temple committee was promptly notified of the theft.
The stolen box, known as the Shraddha box, is opened once a year and typically contains between ₹70,000 to ₹80,000, according to temple officials. The box is filled with donations made by devotees throughout the year. In the past, the temple has been targeted by thieves multiple times, and this incident marks the latest in a series of thefts. The Baguihati police have initiated an investigation and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area, including the Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality, to identify potential suspects.
As part of the investigation, police are searching for any leads that could point to the thief or thieves involved. The stolen money has not yet been recovered. Authorities are also gathering information from nearby areas and locals to help track down the culprits. The temple committee has been in contact with the police and continues to cooperate in the ongoing investigation.
